My Favorite New Discovery…Like a Present

First of all, I am so sorry for not posting for such a long time, I have gotten so busy at work and work travel that I didn’t realize how long it has been until a few subscribers asked me about it. So I am going to try to get back on the ball and I thought I would start with a fun post that you guys might find interesting.

So, I thought I was done with subscription beauty services. I have had BIrchbox for almost two years and it really hurts that I have spent more than $200 and all I have is samples that I barely use and if I do find something that I like and use, than its done in two or three days.  I sometimes wish I had just saved that money for the skincare and makeup products that catch my eyes as I am browsing through Sephora or a department store (not that I don’t do that anyways).  And while I love the idea of discovering new brands and products I would normally never come across, those small samples have not changed my preferences at all, you just don’t generally get enough product to really discover something you love, especially, since most items are skin care and that generally takes a while to see results and fall in love.

So, I had made up my mind that I am not going to renew that subscription service when my current one is over and I am not going to do any more subscription services, and then Wantable came along and changed all of that.  The great people at Wantable reached out to me and sent me a box to try for June.  They offer three different subscription boxes to choose from, an intimates box, a jewelry box and a makeup box. I elected to try the makeup box, because it would be easiest to compare to Birchbox and   let’s face it, I’ve been makeup obsessed lately.

So I went through the normal process.  The great thing about this box is that you take an extensive quiz that covers everything from your skin tone to your color preferences to the type of products that you want and don’t want to receive.  Plus everything that you get is full-sized and from high-end products.  So even though you pay $40/month ($36 if you get a 12-month subscription), they guarantee that you’ll like your box and if you don’t, you can return it and be refunded for that month.  So this box is the right way to feel like you’re getting a present from someone who really knows you, to try new things that you would actually like and to be introduced to lesser known brands you may not otherwise try. I was very happy with my box.

So, now to end the wait and tell you what I got and what my general answers where for the quiz.  I said that I have a medium skintone, I like cool toned products, I love cream and complexion products and I dislike brow, lash, bronzing and nail polish products. I have to say, everything I got was in keeping with that profile.

I receive:

  • A Vincent Longo Pressed Face Powder worth $28. I have to say, I walk by the Vincent Longo counter at Nordstroms every time I’m there and never think to stop, but this powder is very finely milled and luxurious feeling. I was impressed.

  • I got a La Bella Donna Moonlight Cream-to-Blush Highlighter in Moonlight worth $30. This highlighter is like nothing I’ve ever tried, in a good way. It’s a beautiful, duo chrome that shifts between a neutral gold and beautiful pink. It looks great either as a highlighter on the tops of the cheeks highlighter or all over the cheek, either on its own or over or under a cream blush. I just love this. It’s just emollient enough to go on smoothly but not so emollient that it removes foundation. It’s making me want to explore more from this line.

  • A Chella Eyeliner Pen in Black…I mean who doesn’t love a black liquid eyeliner worth $24. This pen really sets and does not budge and it makes applying liquid eyeliner super easy because of the great felt tip.

  • An Ofra Lip liner in the color Cherish worth $10. This is the perfect pink lip liner, when I first saw it, I thought the color of it was too bold, but after using it, the color blends seamlessly with a lot of different lipstick colors, probably because the texture is so nice and creamy.

I loved my box and I am definitely going to subscribe.  I think I will get plenty of use out of all these products, the only one I’m not absolutely in love with is the Vincent Longo powder, because my skin has been really dry lately, so I am trying to avoid all powder products in general. But I am planning to give this to my sister, I think she’ll love it. The value of my box was $92 and I am very happy with it and to get to try products from brands that I haven’t already.

If you are interested in your own subscription service, just click here and be sure to let me know what you get in your box. If you would like to know what I got in my July box, let me know in the comments below and I will prioritize that. Also be sure to subscribe below so that you will be notified of new posts, some interesting ones that I have planned include, how to make the most of a summer internship, how to pack for business travel and how to get out the door in record time.
