Trend Report: Wearing Statement Necklaces at Work

I haven’t done a trend report in a while, and I got such good feedback on these, so I thought I would do another one.  And right now Neiman Marcus Last Call, which is my favorite place to buy statement necklaces, is having an extra 35% off select jewelry, so I thought this would be a great time to talk about this.

I love statement necklaces.  I especially love statement necklaces at work because a lot of us tend to wear very dark colors with no shine or luminosity to work and that right next to our faces can make our skin look dull and highlight pores and fine lines.  A necklace can create a barrier and bring light to your face.  And even better it can make a very plain outfit look pulled together.

Plus, here is a place where you can actually use some color in a work outfit. But as always there are some rules to wearing this to work.

  • Please, please, please avoid 3D effects on these necklaces.  These have a lot going on in these necklaces as is and adding a 3D effect to it is just too much for work.  And while I think these can look really fun, they may be a little too fun for work.
  • Avoid clear crystals.  These have a tendency to look very eveningish, which can make you look like you don’t know where you are.
  • Keep these necklaces close to your neck for the work day. Make sure they don’t go too low so that they are more useful with a variety of outfits and so that they do the job of bringing light to the face.
  • If you wear a statement necklace, be sure that your earnings, bracelets, watch and clothing are simple and delicate.  You don’t want  to distract people too much or have everything competing with each other.
  • Like I said, I love colorful statement necklaces and these can definitely work for a professional environment, but make sure that if you are getting a colorful one that its not too shiny.  Colorful shine can look beautiful in the evenings, but it can look very fake during the day and that can make it look cheap.  A key to looking pulled together at work is always look like what your wearing is well made, it just looks more together.

Below are some examples of the types of things necklaces that, while beautiful, should be avoided at the office.  I love these, but I love them more for evening (all also from Last Call). The first one is too formal, the second one is too shiny and the third one is just too long.  All of these would work better for the night time.

So, with those in mind, have fun with this…one of the reasons I love this trend is that you can play with it and still look professional.

My favorite places to buy statement necklaces are:

I love Last Call  the best because frankly the jewelry there is the best quality, they have a lot of necklaces below $50 and with the 30% off from the link above through March 19th, there is really very little price difference between there and the other sites. And a lot of these are gold plated, which is great for sensitive skin and they get new ones in all the time. Plus, you can get an extra $10 off your order by signing up for emails.  So, I buy my favorites at great prices.

Also, if you do decide to go to Baublebar and use my reference code 27248606, then I will earn points towards a purchase there. So here is the deal, if you decide to do that when I earn enough to buy something, that will belong to you guys and I will give it away to one of my followers.

I have added links to my favorite necklaces. All of these are $35 or less after the additional 35% off at Last Call through March 13th, but after that point, be sure to use the friends and family 30% off discount with this link and the ones from Baublebar are 15% off when you sign up for email.  Also note that these are my favorites below $35 but you can find many more on the sites themselves and I encourage you to take a look.

These are the Fragments Rectangle-Cut Bib Necklace, Clear/Black for $29.50, the Fragments Rhinestone-Crescent Bib Necklace for $32.50, the Panacea Epoxy-Stone Statement Necklace, Turquoise/Pink for $19.50 (yes you read that right), and the Greenbeads Flower Bib Necklace, Yellow for $32.50,respectively.   All of these are from Last Call. As I mentioned before lat call has tons of these, you can find the entire collection of necklaces here.

I was going to stop at $35, but I just love this one so much, so I had to include it. If you’re willing to go to $50, this one is incredible. Its the Greenbeads Glitter Circle-Link Necklace, Bronze/Golden for $48.75.

The last tip I have is this: if you’re still not sure about this or you don’t know if you can pull it off or you want to step out and wear chunkier necklaces but you’re not sure how,  try wearing any of these necklaces with a collared shirt, that way only a small piece peaks out and you get the flattering effect without being at all flashy.

Now that I’ve written this post, I think I’m going to go buy some of these and stock up on gifts. I hope you’ve enjoyed this post. Please let me know in the comments where you like to buy your statement necklaces and if you’ve worn them to work before, how you made it work.

Also, be sure to like this post if you like it and follow the blog to get notified of new posts.  There will be a giveaway happening soon, so you’ll definitely want to stay tuned for that.
