Productivity Prescription: Series Intro

When I work on a solo project, whether it is working for a client or for myself, I find that it is very easy to be distracted.  Not only are there a million personal things that I could be doing for myself, but it seems that when other people hear that I’m working from home, it seems to them that I’m on vacation. Add to that the fact that I have really have a hard time saying “no” to anyone who needs my help and what you have looks more like a circus than any kind of business process.  And as much as I do every day, nothing gets done. Even when I’m in the office, many times when I’m working on something that I’m not necessarily interested in, or when I have too much on my plate and I become overwhelmed, it becomes hard for me to focus and actually accomplish something.

And then I came across a great series that LinkedIn did called “Productivity Hacks.” I loved the idea of reading how some of the most successful people in the world make sure that they get things and I really learned a lot. But a lot of it was targeted towards executives who have much more structured schedule and a lot of it requires very big changes to my day that I’m not going to be able to make, much less keep up.  That inspired me to come up with small change that I could make to make sure that I’m more productive on a daily basis and that don’t require huge changes in my schedule.

As I tried different ideas that I came across or thought of myself I found some small changes have huge impacts.  So I decided to share. “Productivity Prescription” is going to be a weekly series where I will share tips for getting stuff done.
